Nevis Honeymoons

Nevis Honeymoons

The tiny island of Nevis is considered by some to be one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful. It’s not overly developed or packed with tourists, but isn’t a backwater, either — its shores are dotted with quietly luxurious hotels and restaurants. And unlike some other islands, where people think you’ve lost it if you try to engage in exercise beyond raising a p?na colada to your lips, Nevis offers a wealth of ways to get active — both water-based activities like diving, windsurfing and kayaking, and land-lubber sports like hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and golf.

Before You Go: Need-to-know info

  • Language: English
  • Currency: East Caribbean dollar
  • Flight time: About 6 hours from NYC, 12 from LA. You’ll have to connect to a flight from a larger island like Puerto Rico or St. Martin.

When To Go: Nevis at its best

  • Best weather: November through May is reliably gorgeous, with average highs in the high-70s to mid-80s.
  • Best prices: Look for bargains in June, when the high season has ended and hurricane season is just starting (so the risk of a big storm is still low). You’ll likely find even cheaper fares in August and September, but those months are the riskiest, weather-wise.

What To Do

  • Take a hike: You can climb all or part of Nevis Peak, which rises an impressive 3,000+ feet above sea level. Take a map and brave it yourselves, or hire a friendly and informative local guide to lead the way. If you’re not up for mountain climbing, there are a number of smaller hills and more gentle trails around Nevis that are perfect for mellow hikes and mountain bike rides.
  • Be beach bums: When you’re done flexing your muscles for the day, sack out on one of the beaches that rim the island. One beautiful one is Pinney’s Beach, three miles of reef-protected dark sand.
  • Catch your dinner: The waters around Nevis swimming with tasty fish such as tuna, mahi mahi, grouper and snapper. Most fishing charters include an open bar, so if your lines come up empty you won’t mind.

We than proceed towards the Square of Batalha, passing next to the remaining towers of the Wall. Here, we have a surprise for you – a visit to one of the most stunning churches of the city and one of the best belvederes of Oporto. The next stop is at St. Catherine’s Street, a pedestrian and commercial spot, where we will find the Majestic, a famous coffee shop.

After, we‘ll be pleased to show you the interior of the main train station of the centre, São Bento, where you’ll see a remarkable set of tiles, depicting historical moments and traditional sceneries of Portugal.

Next, we cross the Aliados Avenue, where lies the City Hall and, on our way, you will have the opportunity to taste one of our treasure recipes. We than proceed to the area called Clérigos. There, we will show you one of the main icons of Oporto, the Church and Tower of Clérigos. You can also take some free time to visit one of the most renowned bookstores of the world and some traditional shops.

Batalha Square

Up next are the churches of Carmo and Carmelitas, and one of the most traditional wine shops of Oporto. Then we’ll be going down, towards the river Douro, through one of the most picturesque quarters of the centre. The morning ends in the area of Ribeira, in one of its many restaurants.

After lunch, there’s nothing better than a cruise on a rabelo boat, so that you can enjoy the beauty of the city, river and bridges. Next, we’ll take you on a visit to the wine cellars, where you will know a bit more about the history and creation of the Port Wine. Cheer up, because it includes a wine tasting.

However…the day is not over yet! We are going to take you on a small tram tour along the river, up to the area of the beach. We then invite you to walk along this noble area of Oporto, ending your day in one of the many terraces overlooking the sea and the wonderful sunset.

This pleasant city contains the history of the foundation of Portugal. Therefore, we invite you to see for yourself some of the legacy that our ancestors left, for us to remember them.

Our tour begins at the Guimarães Castle and the famous Saint Michael’s Chapel where, according to the legend, the first King of Portugal was baptized. Wright next to them is the Palace of the Duques of Braganza.

After, we will walk towards the lower part of the town, experiencing its old medieval streets and squares, where you will have the opportunity to taste the traditional flavors of the Tortas de Guimarães or the well-known Toucinho do Céu. The morning ends next to the Church of Our Lady of the Olive Tree.

We proceed through the narrow streets, discovering places such as the Coimbra’s Chapel, the Episcopal Palace, the Garden of Saint Barbara, and more.

We are guessing that you main want to grab a coffee, or have a snack, or even do some shopping, so we can spare you some free time.

Next, we will show you one of the most famous sanctuaries of our country – The Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte. It has a magnificent view, for it is on the top of a hill, wonderful gardens, with lakes and small caves, and the superb staircase, with fountains, sculptures, and a unique representation of the Holly Path. The only inconvenient are the hundreds of stairs. However you don’t have to worry, for we won’t climb them. In the book intituled “Wonders of the World” published in 1950. The French marshal Lyautey compared it with Venice rocks in the “Letters of Tonkin and Madagascar ” (June 24, 1895).

The French novelist Yvonne Schultz did not hesitate to praise the miraculous beauty of this bay:

All heights and ten thousand forms; imagination, imitation, pagodas, Hindu temples, menhirs, Chinese towers, pieces of chess-board or true immense mountain. And the extraordinary flows simulating the ruined keeps, the broken down bastions, a succession of palaces with the open belly and tribes of mutilated idols.

Halong BAYis nearly a hidden bay with thousands of limestone islands densely rising from the blue jade water in a sea area of over 1500 square kilometers. Its 1969 green islands enfeeble the strong winds blowing from the ocean to leave the transparent water of the bay often calm in cool and healthy air. From time to time, sailing Junk appearing and disappearing between the islands make the poetic sight more colorful like sparkling pearls or coral reefs found out in the bay. The beauty of the bay is not monotone, at different positions of viewing, it will astonish viewers with quite different fascinations. In the caves and grottoes of stone islands, visitors will discover and admire how many impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The caves have strange but very accurate names, have their own legends in their names as Thien Cung (Heaven Palace) grotto, Dau Go (Wooden Head) grotto, stop-over to visit the caves, your sailing Junk will continue to visit around the shapely islets of fighting cock, incense-burner and others. After breakfast in your hotel, transfer to the Marina for a cruising tour 5 hours by a big wooden Junk on Halong Bay, this is a golden time for your voyage – a masterpiece of Nature is dawning in the bright morning sunlight.

Ha Long Bay is constituted by 3000 small and big islands of all shapes.

In 1994 UNESCO classified Halong Bay as a World Natural Heritage and in November 2000, the World Heritage Committee reconfirmed this classification, your excursion to Halong Bay will re-evaluate the classification of UNESCO to this fairyland.

Landing in Titop Islet, there is the calm and so clean sand & transparent beaches, somewhat little rocky mountains and a beautiful tall terrace, enjoy sun-sea bathing there that always waits to give you the most wonderful sea bathing in calm, transparent water under the sunlight.

We shall suggest you do not miss a romantic lunch with very fresh sea-food on-board, since after visit the floating-rafts/houses of living sea-food, taste the specilities of Halong Bay is quite a life-time experience.

Covering approx 600 sq km, it contains more than 100 fabulous ancient monuments and over dozen major compound Temples, which were built during the most splendid Era of the Khmer Dynasty between the 9th – 13th century and were the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire. The constant building program undertaken by successive Khmer kings can be compared favourably with the pyramid construction projects of the Pharaohs in Egypt. Similar to the Pharaohs, the Khmer kings made use of a vast force of slave labour. Each new “project” was made possible by the 750,000 people estimated to have lived at Angkor during the 12th and 13th centuries. Here, travellers will have experiences about Cambodians Spirit value worth through Ancient Temples (worshipping Shiva-Hindu, or Buddha, Khmer Kings), the stately vestiges of Old Palaces, Royal Courts, ancient Terraces, Public Building, collapsed citadels and antique Towers.

Afternoon, continue to the wonderful Angkor Wat – one of the seven greatest architectural wonders of the world, as a temple and mausoleum for King Suryavarman II at the peak of the Khmer empire in the first half of 12th, Angkor Wat is probably the best-preserved of the Angkorean temples, with a central tower surrounded by four smaller towers. The central monument represents the mythical Mount Meru, the holy mountain at the centre of the universe, which was home to the Hindu God Vishnu. The whole complex covers 81 hectares, a rectangular wall measuring 1025 metres by 800 metres borders the inner edge of the moat, and temples greatest sculptural treasure is its 2 km-long bas-reliefs around the walls…

In the late afternoon coming to the Phnom Bakheng temple, is the first temple in Angkor region build by the Yacovarman I King in the first of 9th century, located on a slope gently hill where thousands tourist are grouping on the hilltop to catch a memorable lifetime when viewing the marvellous sunset on Angkor Wat and on the other sites.

Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia

Day 14 – Siem Reap (by A/C car)

A fullday to discover Siem Reap.

Firstly, you will visit Angkor Thom (the Great City) including the Southern Gate, famous Bayon temple (12th century in the center of city remains one the most enigmatic temples of the Angkor group composed of 54 gothic towers decorated with 216 smiling faces of Avalokitesvara; Baphuon temple lying just to the north of Bayon a pyramidal representation of mythical Mont Meru; Terrasse of Elephants used as a giant reviewing stand for public ceremonies and served as a base for the kings grand audience hall ; Terrace of the Leper King a plateform 7m high, on the top stands a nude though sexless statue; Phimean Akas temple means “Celestial Palace”, dedicated to Hinduism.

Afternoon, continue to visit the Gate of the Death, Thommanon, small, attractive temple in very good condition, built at the same time as Angkor Wat. Its Angkor Wat style is most easily seen in the style of the carved apsaras and the shape of the tower, Chaosay Tevoda, it seems to stand in partnership with Thommanon but actually was built much later in Suryavarman IIs rule than Thommanon, Banteay kdei Then visit Kravan, Srash Srong, & especially Ta Phrom Temple, was a monastery built by Jayavarman VII as a residence for his mother. Ta Prohm has been controversially left to the destructive power of the jungle by French archeologists to show how nature can destroy mans work. It has been largely overgrown by the jungle and as you climb through the dilapidated stone structures you see many giant trees growing out of the top of the temple itself. Ta Prohm looks as many of the monuments did when European explorers first laid eyes on them.

You shall not miss an interesting dinner with Apsara Dance

For those travllers thirsting for cultural highlights of Cambodia, No visit to Cambodia is complete without attending at least one traditional Khmer dance performance, often referred to as Apsara Dance after one of the most popular Classical dance pieces. Traditional Khmer dance is better described as dance-drama in that the dances are not merely dance but are also meant to convey a story or message.

We would strongly recommend a Cultural Show-Dinner on buffet, with the most traditional surrounds accompanied with the best of regional Cambodian cuisine in a local restaurant. Your clients will enjoy able the tradition Royal musical instruments of Cambodia. A traditional music band will sow in your mind the most memorable moments of lifetime thru the folk-music, folk-singers, folk-songs and folk-dances of Apsara dancers during dinner.

Abyssinian Baptist Church – New York (NY)

Liturgic Private Tour

Built in 1808, the Abyssinian Baptist Church, New York’s oldest African American church, has one of the largest black congregations in the U.S. The church traces its roots to 1808, when black parishioners left the First Baptist Church of New York in protest over racially segregated seating. The Abyssinian Baptist Church helped launch the political career of its pastor, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., the first black congressman from the state of New York.

The Sunday morning services — at 9 and 11am — offer a wonderful opportunity to experience the Harlem gospel tradition.

The Amieira Marina, company of nautical tourism and services in the Great Lake Alqueva, inaugurated on the 20th April its panoramic restaurant.

The new space, with capacity for 120 people, bets in the traditional Alentejo food, by hands of the chef Lusa Lopes, former restaurant Bolota Castanha of Jlia Vinegar.

Amieira Marina

The menu, mostly local gastronomy, begins with a couvert with several olive oils, followed by the starters like asparagus with eggs, fried mushrooms with olive oil and garlic, Iberian ham, smoked pork sausage, several preparations with vinegar among others. Dogfish soup, Alentejo tomato soup and Alentejo bread panada to prepare the stomach for the main course.

Fish Dishes: Baked Cod fish, grilled Salmon with aromatic herbs, baked Octopus with potatoes and fried Dogfish with mash potatoes and bread.

We also have salads and pastas and the “Kids Menu”, for children until the 12 years old. Conventual pastry is the queen of desserts, but the nouvelle restaurant promises to develop the dessert options with more items from the Alentejo recipes.

The wine chart exhibits preferential regional wines, especially “Ervideira” wines, a reference of quality, but without relinquishing other marks from Alentejo and of other regions to discover!

With an average price between the 15 and 20 euros, the new space serves lunches daily, between 12h and 15h and suppers only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and holiday eves, between 19h and 22h. Closed on Tuesdays. Group prices between 12,50€ and 25€ – contact us.

O Grande Lago

The valorisation in terms of tourism of the “Lands of the Great Lake” is a strategy of the Tourism Region of vora and the national government. The characteristics of this dam, that includes the vales of the Guadiana and Degebe rivers and Alcarrache, Zebro e Lucefecit streams, offer real potential for tourist development, specially its proximity to the villages and towns of the Alentejo which could articulate their economic base to the tourist trade, rest and recreation of the large body of water of Alqueva and its margins.

The development of what is known as alternative tourism is a far reaching reality in the worldwide innovation of the industry, which is manifested by the appearance of, products, spaces, equipment and services, commercial mechanisms and tourism promoting models that negate the global tendency of massification and that is based on the discovery of new environments and structures that offer a warm but original welcome, involving a personalised contact with the local populations and their cultural patrimony.
